This card is based on the Merrow, or Murugh, a mysterious and alluring mermaid creature that was able to shift forms and travel from sea to land. A personification of the sea, the Merrow is a complex creature rooted in Irish and Scottish coastal traditions that have been deeply embedded in Celtic, coastal lore. The Merrow is a complicated creature, sometimes depicted as beautiful and demure; other times appearing malicious and overflowing with envy.
