This card is based on the Holly King, or Cuilleann Ri, a personification of winter, cycles of change and stillness before growth. According to ancient folklore, every year, the Holly King and the Oak King (the king of summer) would engage in a battle of the seasons. Every year, the cycles of seasons and the battle between the two would reemerge, representing recurring internal battles and struggles.
